What is Spondylolisthesis?

Are you an athlete suffering from back pain radiating towards the legs? It may be because of Spondylolisthesis.

Spondylolisthesis

It is the slipping of vertebra occurring mostly at the base of spine or tail bone. Spondylolysis is a defect or fracture of one/both wings of a vertebra and can cause slipping back, forward, above or below the bone of a vertebra.

Causes

The defect can be congenital or a trauma/ stress fracture can be the cause or can be due to infection or disease. Most commonly, occurs in active children and adolescents, and sportspersons like athletes or gymnasts.

Symptoms

  • Lower back pain
  • Muscle stiffness
  • Pain in the buttocks, radiating down the legs.
